Your Cheat Sheet for River Run Village

Forgot Your Gloves? Here are Best Shops in River Run Village

Forgot to pack an essential item? Looking for souvenirs? Maybe a few new additions to your wardrobe? Need rentals for a day in the mountains? River Run Village has you covered.

Keystone Sports River Run, for example, is the village's main outfitter, stocking equipment, accessories, and apparel from brands including Oakley, Burton, and Columbia. Christy Sports is another go-to for rentals, equipment tuning, and overnight ski storage, allowing you to finish your day on the slopes and walk back to your condo without carrying your gear.

For retail therapy beyond the slopes, browse technical clothing at The North Face, get custom-fitted boots at Surefoot, or pick up Keystone souvenirs at The Colorado Shop and Keystone Made. Families traveling with children also love browsing Build-A-Bear and The Kids Cabin.

Recharge at River Run Village's Best Restaurants

Considering its size, River Run Village packs an impressive variety of restaurants.

Kickapoo Tavern is the village classic, pairing hearty American comfort food with one of Keystone's liveliest après-ski scenes. If tacos and margaritas sound more tempting, Lime Cantina never disappoints, while 9280' Sake House serves sushi and Asian fusion just steps from the gondola.

Pizza on the Run has long been a family favorite, and there's also Argentos Empanadas, which brings a taste of Argentina to the Rockies. Many visitors say there's nothing quite like enjoying a hot empanada after an outdoor adventure during the winter months.

Don't forget dessert! The Crepe Stand is a village legend thanks to its wide variety of sweet and savory crêpes, and The Snack Shack is another must for anyone with a sweet tooth who loves ice cream or frozen yogurt topped with candy. By the way, they claim to have the largest selection of candy in Summit County.

Where to Get Your Coffee Fix in River Run Village

Mountain mornings and good coffee go hand in hand.

Inxpot is the go-to place for great coffee, as well as breakfast and lunch. This cozy local favorite has shelves lined with books, comfy leather armchairs and couches, and rustic mountain decor that's more than inviting if you need a heartwarming cup of coffee, tea, or a bite to eat before or after setting out on an outdoor adventure.

Also make sure to check out New Moon Café for grab-and-go pastries and breakfast sandwiches, and Steep Brewing & Coffee, where you can enjoy strong espressos in the morning and local craft beer once the day's outdoor adventures are over.

Entertainment & Family Fun

The River Run Gondola may be the village's biggest attraction, but there's plenty happening before and after you set off into the mountains.

The eight-passenger gondola climbs to the 11,640-foot summit of Dercum Mountain in roughly 11 minutes, where you and your family can enjoy skiing, hiking, mountain biking, and scenic viewpoints throughout the year.

Back in the village, Dercum Square is the stage for even more family fun. During winter, you'll find an outdoor ice rink framed by snowy peaks, and the little ones can join ski school just steps from the gondola. Outdoor fire pits scattered around the plaza are also popular gathering spots later in the day. Summer swaps the skates for miniature golf, a playground, and bungee trampolines.

River Run's Biggest Celebrations

The social side of River Run shines through its lively calendar of events.

Throughout the year, Warren Station Center for the Arts hosts concerts, comedy shows, and community events for anyone looking to experience something truly local.

Summer, meanwhile, is the season for Keystone's biggest festivals, including the Bacon and Bourbon Festival, Wine & Jazz Festival, Bluegrass and Beer Festival, Stars & Guitars, and Oktoberfest. If you're traveling with the whole family, keep an eye out for Kids Discovery Days and River Run Kidzfest, both created with younger visitors in mind.

River Run Village in Winter Versus Summer

Winter

Winter is when River Run Village takes on the atmosphere of a classic alpine resort.

Holiday lights illuminate the streets, heated pavers keep the walkways clear of snow, and the smell of pizza and hot chocolate drifts between the restaurants. You'll see many skiers gathering around outdoor fire pits after the lifts close, live music spilling into the plaza, and night skiing is a big attraction in Keystone during sky season.

Summer

Summer is when visitors grab their coffee outside, children zip around on bikes and scooters, and mountain bikers load their bikes onto the gondola before tackling Keystone Bike Park. The River Run Trail, with its famous wooden bermed bridge, is one of Keystone's signature summer attractions.

Where to Stay in River Run Village

River Run Village is filled with mountain-style condos, ranging from cosy studios to spacious multi-bedroom retreats. These accommodations are the cherry on top when it comes to comfort and convenience in Keystone. For families and groups, condos provide extra living space and the flexibility to prepare breakfast or relaxed dinners between mountain adventures, among other perks.

Practical Tips Before You Go

Book accommodation early if you're visiting during ski season, as discounts can be available months in advance. If you're flying into Denver, consider taking an airport shuttle instead of renting a car. Thanks to the pedestrian layout, most visitors can comfortably spend their entire holiday on foot.

Day visitors should aim to arrive early if using the free Montezuma or Pica parking lots, especially on weekends and powder days. Paid lots such as Hunki Dori and Gold Bug offer a closer alternative.

Families should also look into Keystone's Kids Ski Free program, available with qualifying resort stays of two nights or more. If you're renting equipment, shops like Keystone Sports and Christy Sports offer overnight storage, saving you from carrying skis back and forth every day.
